Adventures in Cooking

I've been MIA again … in the kitchen. I'll be there for a while yet. My friend N, visiting for a few days, and I have been slaving over producing these …

a traditional French Canadian meat pie, served at Christmas. They are tortiere.

It was an adventure, tho. I don't like making pie crust so I bought it from a place in the market (home-made). I bought them already formed into pie plates. When we tried to peel the crust out of the plates to form the tops, of course, the crusts broke.

I don't own a rolling pin. I put the substitute rolling pin in the photo, still decked out in flour. It all worked out and there will be pie on Boxing Day!! 🙂

Now … about those decorations …

  1. Those are good luckin' pies! I often purchase frozen pie crust, even though I can make a decent one, simply because it's fast, easy and reliable. Especially when whipping up mini-quiche, those frozen tiny pastries make it a breeze.
